As members of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) in England and Wales, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of safeguarding in all aspects of our ministry and community life. We follow the Eight National Safeguarding Standards developed by the Catholic Safeguarding Standards Agency (CSSA). These standards provide a clear and comprehensive framework to ensure the safety and well-being of all, especially children and vulnerable adults.
The Eight National Safeguarding Standards:
1. Embedding Safeguarding
Safeguarding is integrated into the leadership, governance, ministry, and culture of the Church.
2. Communicating Safeguarding
The Church’s safeguarding message is communicated effectively to all members and those we serve.
3. Responding to Harm
Support and care are provided to individuals who disclose harm or abuse, regardless of when it occurred.
4. Managing Allegations
All allegations and concerns are responded to promptly, fairly, and in line with national procedures.
5. Supporting Respondents
Support is offered to those who are the subject of allegations or concerns, while ensuring safeguarding remains the priority.
6. Human Resource Management
Safe recruitment, vetting, and employment practices are implemented for all staff, members, and volunteers.
7. Training and Support
Ongoing safeguarding training and support are provided to all involved in ministry and leadership.
8. Quality Assurance
Safeguarding policies and practices are regularly monitored, reviewed, and improved to maintain high standards.

These eight standards work together to promote a culture of safeguarding, ensuring that everyone has a role in creating safe spaces within the Church.
We are also guided by the safeguarding policies and practices of the Diocese of Westminster and actively collaborate with diocesan and national safeguarding bodies.
